Federal Nursing Loan

THIS IS FOR THE SUMMER 2024 semester.

Low-interest loan for at least half time undergraduate Nursing students with exceptional financial need. Loans are made with government funds through a school’s financial aid office, and the school acts as the lender.
If awarded, students must complete verification of FAFSA information and a master promissory note. Any necessary items and instructions to complete them will be added to the student’s file in their mySLU and emailed to the student.

  • Fixed interest rate of 5%
  • No interest accrues while you are in school at least half-time
  • Repayment begins nine months after graduation or withdrawal from college
  • Deferment during periods of at least half-time enrollment while pursuing an undergraduate degree or advanced professional (graduate) training in nursing
  • Have to be US citizen or national, or lawful permanent resident

  1. I understand that I must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours for the semester in which the loan is offered.
  2. I understand that should the loan be offered to me I will need to log in to mySLU to accept it and complete all necessary paperwork before the end of the term in which the loan is accepted.
  3. Do you intend to serve in a medically underserved community after completing your degree? Applicants are still considered for this loan regardless of the answer.

  5. Did you grow up in a rural community? Rural communities are those that reside out in the country and have many general characteristics, such as a small population size and a generally low population density. Applicants are still considered for this loan regardless of the answer.
